Fernway was born out of a love for adventuring on two wheels and a passion for making things. This, combined with a background in fashion design and training in upholstery, meant it didn’t take long before Amy – our founder and chief creator – invested in a sturdy industrial sewing machine and started making bags for herself and her friends. This marked the beginning of Fernway Fabrications. From a home workshop just outside of Wānaka, each bag is crafted with care, ensuring durability and functionality without compromising on style.
The name Fernway was inspired by the German word Fernweh, which translates to “far-sore” – a deep desire or ache for far-away places and experiences. The word resonated with us as it captures the feeling that drives you to pack up our bikes and head out on an adventure.
There's something quite special about the pace of travelling by bike and having everything you need right there with you. Being out in the elements forces you to be fully immersed and connected to what you are doing. Often away from technology, it's an opportunity to switch off.
Whether it's exploring our local surroundings or traveling to far corners of the world, Fernway serves as a reminder of the vastness of it all and endless possibility for adventure.
