Fernway was born out of a love for adventuring on two wheels and a passion for making things. That combined with a background in Fashion Design and training in Upholstery, meant it didn’t take long before I bought myself a sturdy industrial sewing machine and started designing and making bags for myself and friends. Quite simply, it grew from there. From a home workshop just outside of Wanaka, each bag is crafted with care, ensuring durability and functionality without compromising on style.

Why Fernway? I came across the German word ‘Fernweh’ which literally translates to ‘far-sore and can be described as a deep desire or ache for far-away places and experiences. This word resonated with me as it summed up the feeling that drives me to pack up my bike and head out on an adventure. Bike-packing fulfils that itch to travel and explore. There's something quite lovely about the pace of travelling by bike and having everything you need right there with you. Being out in the elements forces you to be fully immersed and connected to what you are doing. Often away from technology it's an opportunity to switch off.  Whether it's exploring our local surroundings or traveling to far corners of the world, the word serves as a reminder of the vastness of it all and endless possibility for adventure.
